Cleaning Children’s Teeth

Building positive teeth cleaning habits

Creating good dental hygiene habits in young children can be very difficult. Some children take to it very easily, and some do not.

If you have a dental phobia or fear, it is likely that your child will also start to feel this way if you exhibit fear. It is important that your child sees that you or even an older sibling is comfortable in the dental chair and that there is nothing to be scared of.

Starting good habits as soon as possible is the best way to get a great routine happening. The better oral hygiene habits a child can have, the less likely it is that they will have to experience more complicated dental treatment later on.

Some tips for getting your child to brush their teeth:

  • Let them choose a toothbrush
  • Use a child-friendly toothpaste. Some children’s toothpastes have different flavours that are more appealing.
  • Brush your teeth at the same time: monkey see, monkey do!
  • Show them how to brush.
  • Make it a fun experience: play music or a video to engage them.
